LUYENDYK HISTORY
The racing addiction began with Jaap Luyendyk, Arie Luyendyk's father. Prior to racing automobiles Jaap racing bicycles and then transitioned into cars after WWII. Arie Luyendyk would work with Jaap and eventually start driving at 18 without any experience in karting. Luyendyk would catch on fast winning the European Super V Championship and eventually moving to the United States to futher persue his dream in racing.Now the legacy continues with Arie Luyendyk Jr. pushing hard to succeed in motorsports carrying on Luyendyk name in the IndyCar series.

Arie Luyendyk to race an Audi in the Spa 24

Published on 4/06/2011Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk is returning to the cockpit to contest the Spa 24 Hours endurance classic in July.The 57-year-old, who won the Indianapolis 500 in 1990 and 1997, will race an Audi R8 LMS at Spa on July 30-31 for the Anglo-American United Autosports team. The U.S.-based Dutchman joins a roster of star names that includes fellow Indy winner Eddie Cheever, Johnny Herbert, Stefan Johansson and Martin Blundell.Luyendyk, whose last full season of racing came in the Indy Racing League in 1998, said that part of the attraction of coming out of retirement was the chance to race on the famous Spa-Francorchamps road course for the first time.I always thought that something was missing in my racing career, having missed the chance to drive at Spa, said Luyendyk, who won the Daytona 24 Hours with the Doran-run Momo Ferrari team. I like 24-hour races and have always enjoyed doing them.I'm excited about driving in the same team with the likes of Eddie Cheever, Johnny Herbert, Mark Blundell and Stefan Johansson. They're a great bunch of guys and we all go back a long way.Luyendyk, who will share his R8 with amateur drivers Richard Meins, Henri Richard and Alain Li, tested for United Autosports for the first time at Spa last month. He described the track as simply awesome.Herbert and Johansson share their R8 with team owners Zak Brown and Richard Dean. Blundell and Cheever drive with Matt Bell and Mark Patterson.The Spa 24 Hours dates to 1924, and this year it is the blue-ribbon round of the new Blancpain Endurance Series for GT3 and GT4 machinery.

Chad Brassfield and Arie Luyendyk Jr. Launch Zanardi America

Luyendyk Motorsport LLC owners Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Chad Brassfield have concluded an agreement to import the 2010 World Championship winning Zanardi chassis.The operation will run under the banner of Zanardi America and will proceed as the importer of all Zanardi chassis and spare parts for the Western United States as well as the State of Indiana.I am very excited for the opportunity to represent the Zanardi brand and begin work as an importer for this amazing product. The Zanardi chassis and all of its components are second to none and this has been shown through the chassis International racing success. Zanardi America looks to emulate this success in the United States as well as build a solid dealer network. Although I continue to pursue the IndyCar series I am very passionate about karting and making Zanardi America into a great success. Luyendyk Jr. signs former teammate Raphael Matos to drive in the SKUSA SuperNationals for Zanardi America

2009 IndyCar rookie of the year Raphael Matos will pilot a 2011 Zanardi chassis in the premier KZ2 category in the 15th Annual SKUSA SuperNationals held at the Rio Casino on November 20th. Rafa as everyone in the paddock refers to him will rejoin former IndyLights AFS/Andretti teammate Arie Luyendyk Jr. on the Zanardi chassis which Luyendyk imports from Italy.In the 2008 IndyLights season Raphael Matos and Luyendyk Jr. kept the red and yellow AFS colors at the front all year long. Rafa accumulated 7 podiums (including 3 wins) with 5 podiums coming on road courses. Luyendyk finished on the podium 5 times with 1 win, all on oval circuits. Matos went on to win the Championship with Luyendyk trailing 82 points back, 4th in points. The two drivers gained a lot as teammates as their strengths were highlighted on two different types of tracks.Rafa and I have always been close ever since being teammates in 2008. Our working relationship at AFS was one of the best Ive had in professional motorsport, he will bring a lot to the table in Vegas. Rafa has owned a Zanardi chassis for quite some time so working directly with Dino will give him an added advantage. His aggressive style suits street and parking lot courses and last year he ran with the factory drivers up front without the factory support. He is confident in his motor package and I know we have a chassis he can win on, the top step on the podium is within reach. Arie Luyendyk Jr.With Rafa joining the event Zanardi America has three IndyCar drivers (Luyendyk, Matos and Plowman) in the line up, all with ties to the AFS Racing team.Raphael Matos will be Zanardi Americas sole entry in the KZ2 category.
